Indomitable mountains, sea-slashed coast lines and wide expansive beaches are only some of the delights on view as we tour around the Cape Peninsula along the Atlantic Seaboard from Table Mountain to Cape Point.
We will start the tour by visiting Rhodes Memorial, the magnificent memorial to Cecil John Rhodes, designed by Sir Herbert Baker.
From here we take you to Groot Constantia: The oldest wine farm in South Africa, developed by Simon van der Stel in 1685. Since then the estate has enjoyed an uninterrupted tradition of wine making - producing both excellent red and white wines.
The estate is well worth a leisurely visit. Wine tasting takes place in the Bertrams Cellar. The original Manor House and Cloete Cellar both display interesting items from the early years on Groot Constantia and the buildings themselves are beautiful examples of early Cape Dutch architecture. We will enjoy morning tea and cakes at the delightful Jonkershuis Restaurant at Groot Constantia either in the restaurant or under the oak trees. Estate wines are available by glass or bottle and sweet delights like koeksisters and brandy tart will seduce any sweet tooth!
From here we will embark on a scenic drive over the Silvermine Mountains to Boulders, just beyond Simon's Town where we will introduce you to the humanlike Jackass Penguins. Lunch will be enjoyed at Bertha's Restaurant in Simon's Town: Fronting the old Town Pier and boasting picturesque views across the yacht harbour and over False Bay. Bertha's extensive menu features South African fare, fresh seafood and an impressive selection of wines. Emphasis is on flavour and presentation. Only the freshest and finest ingredients are used in the delectable dishes prepared by a team of skilled chefs.
After lunch we depart to the legendary Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope - key beacon for the early explorers and source of many myths and legends. Recognized globally for its extraordinarily rich, diverse and unique flora and fauna, this singular land formation - with its rugged cliffs, steep slopes and sandy flats - is a truly remarkable natural, scenic, historical, cultural and recreational asset locally, nationally and internationally.
We will head back to Cape Town visiting Hout Bay, which remains an important fishing harbour, relatively unscatched by modern development, crowded with boats from every description, with a character and ambience of its own. The most spectacular and most scenic drive in the Cape: Chapman's Peak Drive. The awe-inspiring scenic drive around Chapman's Peak is surpassed only by its superlative sunsets.
We arrive just in time to enjoy sundowners followed by an unforgettable dinner at the Twelve Apostles Hotel: The luxurious Twelve Apostles hotel lies where earth, sea and sky meet, poised above Atlantic rollers and flanked by the majestic Table Mountain and her Twelve Apostles mountain range. This intimate five star hotel fully lives up to its stunning location, with exceptional standards of service and relaxed Cape hospitality providing the perfect counterpoint to its dramatic backdrop.
South Africa is the ideal destination for the leisure golfer and is a golfer's paradise. In the Cape area alone you will find more than 30 high-ranking courses, which meet and even exceed all your expectations.
The De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate is operated by Spier Country Club, and designed by Peter Matkovich, who has made the most of the stunning setting and created a course that places a premium on accuracy.
The course has an excellent mix of parkland holes with its main defences coming from the water features on several of the holes as well as the Oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the golf estate and comes into play at various intervals.
The golf course, open since 2001 with the brand new superb Cape thatch clubhouse [2003/4] is an exciting addition to the group of international standard championship golf courses recently built in the Cape.
Set in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, Spier is famous for many things. But one thing that stands out almost more than the rest is the effect the estate has on the soul. It is a call to celebrate life.
We will spent the morning playing golf in these superb surroundings, whereafter we will have lunch at Moyo African Restaurant at Spier: Indulge in their sumptuous buffet and be thrilled with indigenous live entertainment. The 765m2 covered dining space is scattered with traditional African blankets. The performers mingle through the tables giving you a very intimate experience.
Thereafter we will taste the wine at Spier: All wines can be tasted at the Spier Wine Centre. Showcasing more than 200 local estates, the Spier Wine Centre is a haven for wine-lovers. On the grounds of the main estate and housed in a gabled barn dating back to 1856, the cosy Cape Dutch architecture lures visitors into the treasures of this cellar.
There are delicate whites, rich reds, premium Cape rarities, collectors' labels, superior sherries, rare vintages, and, of course, Spier's very own range of wines, the Spier Range and the Spier Private Collection Range. Grown at the nearby Spier Vineyards, the award winning wines include a range of 7 products in the Spier range and 5 in the Private Collection Range.
We end the day by visiting Canal Walk at Century City: The largest shopping centre in Africa with close to 400 shops and more to come, offering comparative and compelling retail experience under 1 roof in Africa. There are numerous restaurants and bars and a variety of evening entertainment in the grand hall, theatre rooms and cinemas.
Enjoy a relaxed journey into some of the most scenic winelands in the world. Indulge in wine tasting while you become familiar with the history of our vineyards.
Our tour takes you to KWV in Paarl: KWV International is a world wide trading company and the leading brand builder and exporter of South African fine wines and brandies within South Africa and overseas markets.
This includes an introduction to the five taste sensations (salty, sweet, bitter, acid and umami) as well as some pairing of small portions of food with different wines. This serves as a very unique lunch, both appetizing and informative.
After lunch we will depart to Franschoek: La Motte wine farm lies in the heart of South Africa's picturesque Franschhoek Valley, fringed by the Wemmershoek Mountains and the banks of the tranquil Franschhoek River. Elegant gates invite the visitor to sprawling vineyards and the graceful old manor house, rich in Huguenot heritage.
Our final wine tasting for the day is at L'Ormarins: The farm is situated on the slopes of the Groot Drakenstein mountains, forming part of the fertile Franschhoek Valley. Steeped in the traditions of the French Huguenots, the first vines were already planted in 1694. Today L'Ormarins, under the ownership of theohan Rupert Trust, is one of the top wine producing estates in the country.
After a day of wine tasting what a better way to end it than with a world-class dining experience at the famous MARIMBA RESTAURANT in Cape Town City: Merging African influences with the contemporary stylish elegance of the Cape. Marimba has drawn on some of the country's finest talent to create an unforgettable dining experience, which reflects our African origins as well as Cape Town's global energy. Dinner at Marimba is a celebration of fabulous food and exceptional music as Marimba features a sophisticated seven-night-a-week music programme, including Blues, Big Band, Contemporary African, Motown and Jazz. Head Chef Gernot Bunke blends the finest African cuisine with global fusion flavourings to bring about a cuisine concept, which combines his African, Asian and European experience. The menu goes back to the basics where the natural flavours of the dishes are enhanced, rather than disguised.
Not only does the privately-owned Marimba restaurant boast a menu inspired by flavours of the world, they also pride themselves on a diverse sophisticated music menu with dancing encouraged. Their mix of renowned international and local musicians brings the ultimate dinner/dance Jazz & Blues experience to life in Cape Town.
The refined style of Marimba is echoed in the exclusive adjoining Marimba Cigar Bar, which features Cuba's finest cigars complemented by Cape wines, award winning Calitzdorp ports, scotch whisky and Marimba's unique range of African Cocktails, which celebrate marula, Cape cognacs and more.
